Creating A Smooth Transition To A Healthy Lifestyle!
By Tracey Cormier
Perhaps, it’s money trouble, or commuting in traffic each day. Perhaps, you dislike your job or have an incredibly demanding boss. Perhaps, you are dealing with the added pressure of an ill parent or relative. Life events, challenges in our personal and professional lives, worry, emotions and conflict are part of our daily experiences that create stress. Although not all stress is bad, it is the root cause of many problems.
Distress triggers the bodies built in response commonly known as “fight or flight”. Years ago it was needed in order to survive imminent danger and enabled us to either fight our attacker or run for our lives. Specific biochemical reactions took place(increase in heart rate and blood pressure, muscle tension, pupil dilation, increase in blood sugar levels and other necessary response mechanisms) in order to survive.
Today, we face constant daily pressures that enable the same fight or flight response. Unfortunately, the continued demands place on the adrenal glands over time wreak havoc with our health negatively affecting the mind and body, altering the body chemistry and creating imbalance in the short and long term. Changes can include a weakened immune system, the inhibition of the production of white blood cells, lethargy and fatigue. It can also interfere with normal sleep rhythms, inadequate or poor quality of sleep.
Other common symptoms of stress include: anxiety, irritability, muscle aches and pains, difficulty winding down, lack of energy, loss of motivation and productivity. Supplements can be beneficial to help deal with anxiety and stress. They enable the mind to slow down, support more rational thinking and help to re-balance body chemistry.
Environmental tests show that there are more toxins in a household than there are in the outside world. Did you ever think that the glues underneath your carpets are just underneath your children and pets bodies? What about redoing a babies room with toxic paints and new furniture smells while you are pregnant and ingesting these toxic fumes? People don’t think of the long term effects this will have on the unborn baby.
