Dealing with Stress

By Sandra Rouse

One of the leading causes of health problems is stress. Stress occurs in our personal lies and on our jobs. There is good stress and there is bad stress. Good stress is when we have a deadline and that pressure creates an atmosphere in which we can complete the work that needs to be done. When it is over, it is over. This always works in our favor to help us achieve our goals.

However, when we suffer with bad stress we lose the focus we need to live our lives in peace and harmony. Stress affects our emotions as well as bodily responses. Most of the time stress is related to fear, or a change in our lives, or an illness. Managing these challenges in our life is the way to overcome stress.

You know you are stressed when you are nervous or impatient for no reason. If you have negative thoughts about yourself and others or you cry a lot and feel angry about the things that are going on around you, you have too much stress in your life Other signs of stress include forgetfulness and not being able to concentrate. If you are constantly tired and do not want to get out of bed you are feeling the result of stress that is taking over your life.

To deal with stress, you have to take time to assess yourself. You need to determine why you are having these feelings and deal with them. One way to effectively deal with them is to make a list of what is bothering you. Keeping a journal will help you to deal with it. If you do not have a support system, it is one way of telling yourself what is wrong. It is an internal discussion.

Having a support system such as friends and family with whom you can discuss your problems will help you to deal with your stress. If such a support system is unavailable, you may want to discuss your problem with your doctor. Your doctor can recommend that you see someone who can help you.

Another way to deal with stress, depending on what you have determined is the cause, is to hire a personal development coach. If your stress is based on work factors such as getting along with other people or wanting to advance in your career, a personal development coach can assist you. They will help you to assess your strengths and weaknesses and work out a plan to help you achieve your goals. They will provide positive reinforcement and can help you with obstacles that may stand in your way.

Dealing with stress is the only way to manage it. You have to take the first step by recognizing there is a problem and determining what it is. Once you realize why you feel so much stress, you can find the help you need to overcome it.
