What Is a Panic Attack?

A panic attack can be a sudden period of anxiety that can be triggered by arousal, fear or discomfort. Some say that panic attacks can even have unknown causes if any at all. This form of anxiety is part of a response known as the fight or flight system which refers to either fighting the attack or fleeing from it. Most people will tell you that a panic attack can be the most frightening feeling you will ever experience. Some say panic attacks make you feel like your dying, having a heart attack, feeling very nauseous, and fainting. The main symptoms of a panic attack are dramatic shortness of breath and heavy chest pain and tightness. Some other symptoms that people have had are:

2. Dizziness
3. Choking
4. Sweating
5. Trembling

Some people that have panic attacks will, overtime, recognize that its just an attack of something that they are fearing or stressed about and they will soon get over it. Other people can not take the stress of it and just get more physical problems that can lead to severe anxiety disorders. The main thing you need to do is recognize what is causing these attacks and fight them. Learn how to overcome this arousal, fear or feeling of discomfort you are having. By doing this you can greatly reduce the risk of reoccurring attacks.

People who suffer from anxiety might tell you that breathing through a paper bag might help reduce the risk of having a panic attack when you feel like your getting one but studies have shown that this technique can be fatal and is not practical to use this method.
