Stress Management With Self-Hypnosis

By Joel Chue

Self-hypnosis can be used to help you relieve the stress that you have. This can be done without the necessity of music. To start off, find yourself some place comfortable and free from any kinds of distractions. Be sure to relax and listen to your own thoughts. Self-hypnosis is attained when you let your thoughts to come and go naturally.

Note you won’t find evidence of your hypnotic state like people do in movies where people wear lampshades or someone has them raise fingers or something. No theatrics here. Instead, you’ll find peace of mind, comfortable breathing.

OK, self hypnotic sessions for around 10 minutes of longer are good to really dig in and get your mind relaxed. Then when you need to take 5 later like for a work break, you’ll be able to quickly tap into your hypnotic channel or outlet, so to speak, and get recharged.

Basic steps to following when carrying out self hypnosis:

1. Prepare, then Relaxation

Before you start, it is always helpful and important to concentrate on your goals that are positive. For e.g. it can be I want to complete my assignment within 3 hours without any disturbances. Be as specific as possible and remember, you need to write it out in a positive way. Do not write something like I do not want to complete my work within 6 hours. It is not going to work.

Next, you need to first relax your body. As your body and mind works as one, when your body relaxes, your mind will relax too. Start from your head and work your way down. Close your eyes and relax your head on a comfortable pillow. Next, relax your shoulders, arms and hands. Then move on and relax your chest, tummy and your legs. Control your breathing too, slowing it and calming yourself, letting go of stress as you exhale.

2. Suggestions

When you have fully relaxed, now is the time to focus on your goals you make earlier on and repeat the affirmation to yourself. As you repeat, see yourself already accomplishing that goal. See yourself completing your work within the 3 hour frame, totally focus ignoring any distractions coming your way. Visualize yourself enjoying the pleasure of working, enjoying the whole process of working totally focus in the 3 hours time frame.

3. Rejuvenation and Awakening

Then begin to awaken your mind and body, slowly moving like you would with warm up exercises. Smile and remind yourself to be happy and thank yourself for having taken a time out for your self improvement episode. Tell yourself you’ll be fully awake at the count of three, then count and snap out of your hypnotic stance.
