Tips That Can Help You Relax After a Stressing Day
By Joanne King
Unfortunately, very few of us can say that we have never had a day so full of stress that we just felt as though one more thing would make the world fall apart. Somehow, we make it through the day, and drag ourselves home. Only, once we get home, we can’t take our mind off of the stressful events of the day, so instead of relaxing as we should be, we spend all night thinking about what went wrong, and what could have been done differently, etc. Not only do we not get any rest, we also probably get very little sleep, and wake up to the alarm, dreading the day and praying that it’s not a repeat of the one before. If this sounds like you, then you need to learn how to leave all of that stress behind, relax, and just focus on yourself. By letting go of the stressful events of the day, you will get a much better sleep, and be prepared for the challenges to come. So, here are a few tips that might be able to help you do just that.
When you get home from a very stressful day, turn the television to your favorite comedy show, grab some munchies from the kitchen, you know that secret stash of chocolate cookies, or your favorite ice cream hidden way in the back of the freezer, something to wash it all down with, and cozy up in front of the television for a while. Don’t think about anything except for what you are watching. Enjoy the show, and make yourself laugh at all the little jokes and funny scenes along the way. Soon, you will be laughing right along without even realizing it, and you will find yourself feeling much better. Sometimes, laughter really is the key to having a happy, carefree life, and it can be a great stress buster. When you are ready for bed, keep your mind on the funny scenes you watched on television, put on your favorite pajamas, scoot under the covers, and off you go! You should wake up feeling rejuvenated, and with a more positive outlook for today’s to do list.
Most women already know that one of the best ways to relax is with a long, hot soak in the tub. Take your favorite drink with you, a book, or your favorite CD, and just shut yourself away for a while. Don’t think about anything other than how good the water feels, and how much you are enjoying this time. After about an hour or so, you should feel yourself start to calm down and relax. When you are ready, get out and apply your favorite lotion, and then don your pajamas and head off to bed for a good night’s sleep. You will awake energized and ready to combat the events of the new day.
Come home from work, cook yourself up your favorite comfort food, put on your must comfortable clothes, and take the phone off the hook for the night. Cozy yourself on the couch with the TV remote, staying away from any depressing shows, or grab a good novel and lose yourself in it. You will soon feel so calm and relaxed that you may just dose off there ob the couch, and if you do, hey that’s alright too!
These tips are more or less designed to be something that you do alone, but if you are married, and your partner is interested in distressing after a long day with you, there are many other things that you can do together, such as massage, take long, relaxing walks, or go see a movie. Just whatever you do, don’t bring up any stressful subjects, or compare your stressful days, as you will only cause your stress level to increase, which defeats the entire purpose!
In today’s busy world, it is important that we take time for ourselves, and to kind of decompress after a particularly trying day. Stress is not good for anyone, and if it builds up to unbearable levels, it can damage both your physical and mental health. So, take control now, before stress starts to interfere with your health!
